JAKARTADAILY.ID - Salim Group, an Indonesian conglomerate with a diverse portfolio, is venturing into the world of metaverse by collaborating with WIR Group, a tech company in Southeast Asia that specializes in Augmented Reality (AR) technology that is integrated with Virtual Reality (VR), and Artificial intelligence (AI).

Salim Group previously confirmed its foray into the digital ecosystem industry, as it does not want to be left behind after the tech boom.

The group previously tapped into the internet and telecommunications industry, which include data centers and the internet service providers.

In a statement sent to JakartaDaily.id on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, WIR Group (WIRG) said the two groups have established a joint venture called PT Metaverse Indonesia Makmur.

"Powered by WIR Group’s expertises in the fields of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) (...), Salim Group sets a firm stride to enter and explore the metaverse world in a quest for new innovations and breakthroughs, and to optimize every opportunity with the goal to maximize the growth of its business," the statement said.

WIR Group has a strong background and has completed thousands of projects in more than 20 countries since 2009.

Executive Director of Salim Group Axton Salim said this collaboration aims to support the development of the metaverse platform called 'Nusameta'.

"We are confident that through Nusameta, we will be able to explore and seize many business opportunities that were unimaginable before. Together with WIR Group, we will bring tremendous opportunities for the development and growth of businesses in the future," said Axton Salim, the son of Anthony Salim and Margareth Salim, the family behind the Indonesian conglomerate.

Axton Salim is the grandson of Sudono Salim, the founder of the Salim Group, which controls a number of companies, including Indofood, one of the world's largest makers of instant noodles and Hong Kong-listed investment firm First Pacific, which has assets of $26 billion in Asia, according to Forbes.
