Indonesian National Police Plans to Develop Regional Police Structure to Face Cyber Crime

JAKARTADAILY.ID – Anticipating Cyber Crime that have been increasing in Indonesia, The National Police plans to develop its structure by establishing a Directorate of Cyber Crime in every regional police station (Polda) throughout Indonesia.

"The Indonesian National Police is developing a structure to counterbalance Cyber Crime, proposing that there is a directorate of cyber crimes, a cyber detective at the Regional Police," said Deputy Investigator of the Directorate of Cyber ​​Crime (Dittipidsiber) of the Criminal Investigation and Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri), Chief Commissioner Alfis Suhaili in YouTube MUI TV, Thursday, 15 September 2022.

According to Alfis, the Directorate of Cyber ​​at the Regional Police has a small structure so that the Regional Police often find it difficult to deal with cyber crimes that are increasingly widespread in every region of Indonesia.

"Meanwhile, the sub-directorate is now a small sub-directorate under special crimes. And it can't handle crimes that are now indistinguishable," he said.

With the increasing number of cyber crimes, the quality of crimes can be the same in every regional Police.

"That the Indonesian Police (in the eastern part) will face small cases, cannot. They will face cyber crimes of the same quality. So they can no longer be distinguished," he said.

Alfis revealed that the structure in each Polda will be adjusted by geographical conditions to resources. According to him, in any region, there are certainly threats of cyber crime in the same form.

"In the past, distinguishing a structure was based on the type of Polda as a whole, its workload index, geographical conditions, resource conditions were all calculated. But this is different from this Cybercrime," he said.
