JAKARTADAILY.ID – PT XL Axiata Tbk and Nokia Indonesia have joined hands to embrace ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) principles. This collaboration, themed "Women Leadership and Environmental Social Governance Program," demonstrates the commitment of XL Axiata and Nokia Indonesia in supporting ESG targets through sustainable initiatives.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) took place in Jakarta, with Yessie D. Yosetya, Director & Chief Digital Transformation and Enterprise Business Officer of XL Axiata, alongside Ozgur Erzincan, President Director of PT Nokia Solutions & Network Indonesia, and Sabar Situmorang, Customer Team Head of XL Axiata of PT Nokia Solutions & Network Indonesia.

Yessie emphasized the shared passion between the two entities to accelerate ESG targets through sustainable programs focused on women's empowerment. XL Axiata is dedicated to supporting women's empowerment, not only in business but also by providing digital skills and knowledge. Social sustainability is a key focus for XL Axiata, with a mission to empower women and bridge the digital inclusion gap among them. Their CSR program, Sisternet, will actively collaborate with Nokia's StrongHer movement to promote women's empowerment initiatives.

Additionally, this partnership opens doors for XL Axiata and Nokia Indonesia to work together on operational activities that promote effective environmental governance, aligning with Indonesia's goal to reduce carbon emissions by 43.2 percent by 2030. XL Axiata supports the Paris Agreement's objective of limiting global warming to a maximum of 1.5°C above preindustrial levels.

In recent years, XL Axiata has been devoted to adopting environmentally friendly technologies and renewable energy, such as using solar panels in their BTS network across Indonesia.

To implement ESG within their operations, XL Axiata initiated the voluntary program "XL Axiata Carbon Warrior" at the beginning of this year, allowing employees to actively contribute to the company's sustainable efforts. The program, which involves around 50 employees with diverse expertise, holds regular meetings called "Carbon Talk" to share ideas, discuss initiatives, and collaborate on ESG principles' implementation. Some of the initiatives include green BTS implementation, e-SIM adoption, and promoting the movement to turn off unused lights.

XL Axiata remains committed to ESG principles, aiming to support Indonesia's carbon emission reduction target of 43.2 percent by 2030 and reduce its own carbon emissions by 45 percent from the 2020 baseline by 2030. By achieving these goals, XL Axiata aims to play a role in preventing long-term disasters caused by climate change.
