JAKARTADAILY.ID – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, highlighted the contribution of PT Surveyor Indonesia (Persero), a state-owned enterprise, in the successful launch of the SATRIA-1 satellite into orbit.

According to Erick, PT Surveyor Indonesia has played a significant role as a supervisor throughout the multifunctional satellite project, spanning design, construction, and operational stages.

The involvement of a state-owned enterprise, Erick stated, aims to support the development of Indonesia's infrastructure, particularly in the telecommunications sector.

He expressed optimism that SATRIA-1 would bring numerous benefits to the public, especially in terms of bridging the digital divide and fostering equal access to the internet, particularly in underserved and remote areas.

"This is essential for Indonesia's future, which holds immense potential in digital economic development. Indonesia is poised to become one of the major digital economic powerhouses in Southeast Asia," remarked Erick Thohir in his Instagram post on Thursday, June 22, 2023.

As previously reported, the SATRIA-1 satellite was launched from Florida, United States, on June 19, 2023, using SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket. It will orbit above Papua, and its operational functionality is expected to commence in January 2024.

SATRIA-1 is Indonesia's first internet satellite, equipped with a capacity of 150 Gbps, providing internet services to 50,000 public facilities. The projected internet speed at each public service point is estimated to reach 4 Mbps.

The Satria-1 satellite will support communication networks in areas that have hitherto been unreached by fiber optic cables, thereby bridging the internet access gap, especially in remote and underserved regions.

"Let us proceed with the blessings of God, making Indonesia prosperous and globally influential," concluded Erick.
