JAKARTADAILY.ID – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is set to implement the Face Recognition Boarding Gate technology at Cirebon Station starting from Friday, May 19, 2023.
The introduction of the Face Recognition Boarding Gate aims to simplify the boarding process for long-distance train passengers, eliminating the need to present various documents such as physical boarding passes, e-boarding passes, ID cards, or vaccination certificates.
Dicky Eka Priandana, Vice President of KAI Daop 3 Cirebon, stated that KAI has introduced the Face Recognition Boarding Gate facility at Cirebon Station to ensure and enhance the latest innovative services provided by KAI.
The Face Recognition Boarding Gate is a boarding service equipped with cameras that are used to identify and validate a person's identity through facial recognition, which is integrated with the customer's train ticket data and vaccination status.

To enjoy this facility, customers need to register once at the beginning, and the registration is valid for a lifetime. The registration process involves placing an electronic ID card (e-KTP) on the e-KTP Reader and scanning the right or left index finger on the scanner.
Once registered, customers no longer need to print boarding passes. They can proceed directly to the Face Recognition Boarding Gate when their departure time is approaching. By facing the scanner machine, if the ticket data, identity, and vaccination requirements match, the gate will open automatically.
"It only takes 1 second to verify the customer's face and validate all the data stored in the KAI system. This will greatly facilitate customers and streamline the boarding process," explained Dicky.
Currently, registration services are available at Cirebon Kejaksan Station. Registration can be done at the registration counters located in the Check-in Counter (CIC) area. In the future, online registration through the KAI Access application will be developed.
For customers who are unable to register due to not having an e-KTP or if their e-KTP is damaged, KAI still provides manual boarding services at Cirebon Station.
Dicky emphasized that potential customers need not worry about the security of their data because KAI has good information security management and consistently improves the security of the data managed by the company.
The Face Recognition Boarding Gate is one of KAI's innovative approaches to improving customer service. This innovation is also a follow-up to the cooperation agreement between KAI and the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on February 2, 2022.

Regarding the Railway Travel Regulations, KAI remains committed to implementing health protocols for train travel for its customers. As for vaccination requirements, KAI currently adheres to the Ministry of Transportation Circular No. 84 of 2022, which is derived from the Covid-19 Task Force Circular No. 24 of 2022.
