PLN ICON Plus through ICONNET Supports Broadband Internet Penetration in Lepar Island, South Bangka

JAKARTADAILY.ID – People on Lepar Island, an island located off the southeast coast of Bangka Island, South Bangka Regency, can now experience 100 percent internet service.

This follows the arrival of ICONNET, a fixed broadband internet product from PLN ICON Plus. Previously, Lepar Island was one of the islands in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province that had not been fully connected to the fixed broadband internet network.

President Director of PLN ICON Plus, Ari Rahmat Indra Cahyadi said that the presence of ICONNET internet services to Lepar Island, South Bangka, is to support government programs to provide opportunities for fixed broadband internet access evenly throughout Indonesia.

"ICONNET is present on Lepar Island to provide internet access to the community thanks to the support of fiber optic cable infrastructure in the submarine cable network owned by PLN along approximately 20 kilometers. The sea cable that connects Bangka Island, precisely from Bangka Regency South to Lepar Island not only brings electricity services but also the internet network to Lepar Island," said Ari, in his written remarks read by the Director of PLN ICON Plus Connectivity Business, Sigit Witjaksono on Lepar Island, Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

On the same occasion, as a form of Social and Environmental Responsibility, through the PLN Cares for Education program, PLN ICON Plus handed over a number of assistance to schools on Lepar Island.

PLN Icon Plus provided free internet facilities for 1 year to 10 schools, ranging from kindergarten, elementary, junior high to high school on Lepar Island and each school received 2 (two) Laptop units to support digital learning activities.

"In addition to free internet assistance for 1 year and 2 units of Laptop, each to 10 schools on Lepar Island, PLN ICON Plus Peduli also provides assistance in the form of Free Internet Village facilities in public spaces that can be utilized together. We also built ICONNET Gapura to welcome people who have just arrived on Lepar Island as well as infrastructure assistance for cleanliness," Ari added.

People in Lepar Island, especially MSMEs, and other communities can also utilize the Market Place feature in the PLN Mobile Application to conduct digital buying and selling transactions.

Meanwhile, the Regent of South Bangka, Riza Herdavid, expressed his appreciation to PLN ICON Plus for the presence of ICONNET which has reached the community on Lepar Island.

"Alhamdulillah, with the presence of ICONNET provided by PLN ICON Plus, our residents on Lepar Island can have the opportunity to get the same internet access as other areas. The community must be able to utilize it for positive and productive things. We hope that this program will not only stop on Lepar Island, there are still several more islands in our area that are still blank spots and need the presence of PLN ICON Plus," said Riza.

Head of SMA Negeri 1 Lepar Pongok, Jasman, S.Pd., expressed his gratitude for ICONNET's presence in his school.
