JAKARTADAILY.ID – Three workers died in a clash between Indonesian workers and foreign workers from China that occurred in the smelter area of PT Gunbuster Nickel Industri (GNI) North Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi, Saturday night, January 4, 2023.
According to PMJnews, Head of Public Relations of the Central Sulawesi Police, Police Grand Commissioner, Didik Supranoto said that as a result of the commotion an employee mess was burned and vehicles belonging to both employees and companies were damaged.
"Two migrant workers and one foreign worker died. Then there were three workers who were injured," Didik Supranoto said when confirmed, Sunday, January 15, 2023.
To calm the workers, Didik continued, the police and TNI came to the location. The clash was finally brought under control after police officers broke up the two groups of workers involved in the clash.
"Meanwhile, the foreign workers were secured and evacuated at the PT GNI smelter 2 location," he said.
According to Didik, the commotion occurred when most of the workers went on strike. The police have arrested at least 69 people who were suspected of being provocateurs.
"North Morowali Police have arrested 69 people suspected of being provocateurs and vandals," he said.
