JAKARTADAILY.ID – Indonesian state-owned company PT PLN (Persero) held a Focus Group Discussions (FGD) to develop Public Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Stations (SPBKLU) in Indonesia. This activity is part of the PLN E-Mobility Days series held at the Andaz Hotel, Denpasar, Saturday, July 23, 2022.

The FGD involved PLN stakeholders and Volta along with Energi Selalu Baru (ESB), a PT NFC Indonesia Tbk, MCAS Group subsidiary, that discussed efforts to add SPBKLU in Indonesia which is expected to accelerate the growth of the national electric vehicle ecosystem.

President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo explained that the acceleration of the transition to electric vehicles is a concrete step in switching from expensive and high-emission fossil energy to more affordable and environmentally friendly domestic energy.

In an effort to accelerate this transition, PLN responded to the enthusiasm of the public toward electric vehicles, dominated by electric motors through the development of a more massive SPBKLU.

Moreover, according to Darmawan, many motorcycle-taxi drivers are starting to use electric motors because they are more efficient than fuel. However, the process of charging an electric motor takes time. To answer this need, it is important to have a battery swap station.

"For electric vehicle users, specifically motorcycle-taxi drivers, timing is very important. With SPBKLU, it is no longer than 5 minutes for battery replacement so it does not take a long time. If this can be propagated by the SPBKLU, it will certainly make it easier for them," said Darmawan

President Director of PT M Cash Integrasi Tbk, Martin Suharlie revealed that this effort is his company's commitment to be able to continue to provide social impact for the people of Indonesia.

"Through Volta and the battery replacement system developed by the Group, we are running and synergizing with PLN to continue to strengthen the EV ecosystem in Indonesia," said Martin.

The same thing was conveyed by CEO of Energi Selalu Baru, Iwan Suryaputra. He is optimistic that this discussion can produce ideas to expand the accessibility of SPBKLU.

"This is an effort to accelerate the development of sustainable transportation and clean energy in order to realize the mission of creating a greener Indonesia," he said.

Previously, PLN had started with EV ecosystem programs. PLN has created charging stations, home charging, priority electricity services for EV facilities, and also a digital system integrated with PLN Mobile. However, strengthening the EV ecosystem must continue to be done with the collaboration of all parties.
