JAKARTADAILY.ID – Taiwanese investor Wei-Min Donald Chen has planned to develop a nickel smelter in Bantaeng, South Sulawesi Province.
Chen, a director of PT Asiamax Mining Indonesia, which has been operating in Morowali, Central Sulawesi, told the local press in Makassar last week that he met South Sulawesi Acting Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman to discuss about the smelter project plan.
“We plan to develop a nickel smelter in Bantaeng. We need a few hectares of land for the construction of the smelter,” he said without elaborating the planned project.
Bantaeng Regency has become one of nickel investment destinations in Sulawesi for investors, mostly from China, to develop Nickel Smelters to refine the island’s huge nickel reserves, after the Indonesian government decided to stop exporting unprocessed nickel ores and only allow the already processed ones.
