JAKARTADAILY.ID – The open selection or open bidding process for the position of Director General of Mineral and Coal and expert staff positions at Indonesia's Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has been annulled.
Rida Mulyana, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, announced on May 31, 2023, that the cancellation of the open selection process was due to legal issues faced by the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal.
"In light of the legal cases, the ministry requires high and mid-level officials with the capacity and experience to handle these matters," said Rida Mulyana in his announcement letter dated May 31, 2023.

On March 27, 2023, Ali Fikri, spokesperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), stated that the anti-graft body had searched the office of the Director General of Mineral and Coal, as well as the apartment of the then acting Director General of Coal and Mineral, Muhamad Idris Froyoto Sihite. Sihite was also one of the strong candidates for the director general position.
According to a government source, the searches were related to the embezzlement of state funds by 11 individuals, including nine internal staff members of the Director General of Mineral and Coal, one retired staff member of the Mineral and Coal Directorate General Treasury Office, and one person from outside the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.
The total state loss in these cases amounted to Rp 27 billion in a maladministration scheme. The staff members of the Director General of Mineral and Coal inflated their performance allowances and official travel budgets.
"For example, someone in a staff position or at the third echelon should receive Rp 7.2 million as a performance allowance, but they changed the amount to Rp 72 million. This must have involved someone from the finance division," he added.
Rida Mulyana stated that the position of Director General of Mineral and Coal and the expert staff of Natural Resource Economy will be filled through a rotation or mutation process.
According to announcement number 01.Pm/PK.03/SJN/2023 dated January 31, 2023, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry had initially announced an open selection for high and mid-level positions at the ministry.
