Indonesian Food and Beverage Products are in Demand in Africa and Middle East Market

JAKARTADAILY.ID – Indonesian food and beverage products are in demand in the African and Middle Eastern markets.

This was proven when participating in the 7th Food Africa exhibition which was held on December 5-7, 2022 at the Egypt International Exhibitions Center (EIEC), Cairo, Egypt.

Indonesian food and beverage products have successfully reaped potential transactions of $15.32 million or the equivalent of Rp241 billion.

In the Food Africa 2022 exhibition, as many as 11 Indonesian business actors in the food and beverage sector and agro-derived products took part.

Director General of National Export Development (PEN) of the Indonesian Ministry of Trade Didi Sumedi said Indonesian F&B products are in demand by buyers from various countries, such as Egypt, Yemen, Lebanon, Russia, Burundi, Palestine, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Turkey, and Italy.

"Indonesia's participation in this event is an implementation of President Joko Widodo's directive so that Indonesia expands its share of exports to non-traditional markets. Apart from food and beverage and agro-derived products, the Ministry of Trade is also continuing to make efforts so that other local commodities can enter non-traditional markets. This exhibition is also expected to be able to increase non-oil and gas exports," said Director General of National Export Development (PEN) Didi Sumedi, December 14, 2022.

According to Didi, the presence of the Indonesian Pavilion at Food Africa 2022 is an effort to penetrate Indonesian food and beverage products into the African and Middle Eastern markets, especially Egypt. It is projected that the transaction value will still increase in line with the participants' continued negotiation efforts after the exhibition.

The 11 business actors occupying the 54-square-meter Indonesian Pavilion are PT Mandala Prima Makmur, AK Goldenesia, PT Chita Agri Indonesia, PT Internasional Niaga Globalindo, Nusako, PT Sumber Kopi Prima, PT Mayora, PT Selaras Rasakoe Indonesia, PT Alam Scientia Asia, PT Ikafood Putramas, and PT Sasa Inti.

Meanwhile, the products on display include coffee beans, instant coffee, cocoa powder, palm olein, shortening, cocoa butter substitute (CBS), moringa tea, desiccated coconut, spices, seasonings, animal feed maize, as well as food waste processing equipment.

Didi explained, Food Africa is one of the biggest trade exhibitions in the Middle East and North Africa Region.

"The success of the Indonesian Pavilion at Food Africa 2022 is the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Trade through the Directorate General of National Export Development and the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo. I thank and appreciate the leadership and staff in the local accredited country for their cooperation and support," said Didi.
