TECH and BCA are Launching KAWN, an All-in-One Digital Cashier System for Indonesian F&B Businesses

JAKARTADAILY.ID - PT Indosterling Technomedia Tbk, a digital technology arm of a diversified conglomerate IndoSterling Group, announced their collaboration with PT Bank Central Asia Tbk, one of Indonesia's most valuable lenders by market value, to offer an all-in-one digital cashier system that targets F&B businesses across Indonesia.

In a statement sent to JakartaDaily.id on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, Indosterling Technomedia said they are collaborating with BCA to digitize transactions through the KAWN application. 

TECH owns and operates a diversified portfolio of various information technology and digital companies, serving a diverse array of B2B and B2C markets.

KAWN, which is a Point-of-Sale (POS) application, offers an all-in-one digital cashier system, targeting customers in micro to medium F&B businesses across Indonesia.

A director at KAWN, Yoas said this digital partnership is a "concrete response" to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy's (Kemenparekraf) call to enhance the culinary business.

Quoting from KAWN's official website, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has learned that the food and culinary industry, a subsector of the creative economy, is the biggest contributor to the creative economy's GDP, which accounts for almost 43 percent of the overall GDP each year.

This means  F&B businesses have a lot of potentials to grow and have proven to be resilient in various difficult conditions.

"The digitization of culinary products is one of the initiatives being pushed by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to further advance the culinary business, which is expected to broaden the scope of product marketing and provide added value for business actors. This collaboration is a real example of its implementation," Yoas said in the statement.

Furthermore, Yoas said this collaboration will make it easier for cashiers to process transactions in the BCA’s electronic data capture (EDC) machines.

"The cashier only needs to input the purchase transactions through the cash register without having to reinput the numbers into the BCA’s EDC machine. Additionally, the transaction data in the EDC machine can automatically be recorded (captured) by the cashier’s POS," he explained.

"This collaboration between KAWN and BCA will aid in the processing of payment transactions by cards via BCA’s EDC machines deployed at the culinary business outlets," Yoas said.

He said that as a subsidiary of PT Indosterling Technomedia, the KAWN online cashier application has the vision to create the largest digital ecosystem in Indonesia, especially in the food and beverage (F&B) industry.

TECH said in the same statement that the big data approach used by KAWN to develop the app and its features can be seen in how it uses the data collected from users’ traffic as a basis to evaluate the features and decide which one needs to be improved.

For instance, the inventory or stock management tool is one of the features that users are particularly interested in. A product's raw materials can be managed, moved, and given an expiration date with the use of the stock management tool for F&B business.
