JAKARTADAILY.ID –The Directorate General of Consumer Protection and Orderly Commerce (PKTN), of the Indonesia Ministry of Trade, secured Steel products worth Rp 41.68 billion from two companies in Serang, Banten, and Surabaya, East Java.

The imported Steel product was confiscated because it was suspected that it did not meet the quality requirements of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI).

Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said the confiscation was carried out based on information on the widespread importation of raw materials for zinc-coated Steel (BjLS) and galvanized Steel coils with aluminum-zinc alloy (BjLAS) from China, as well as the circulation of BjLS products that did not meet the required quality.

“After being tested, these products are declared not to meet the requirements of SNI, namely SNI 07-2053-2006 and SNI 4096:2007. The Steel products that were secured were recorded as weighing 2,128 tons with a value of Rp 41.68 billion," said Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan as reported by the kemedag.go.id, Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

Zulhas said the seizures were carried out in two companies at once in Serang Regency, Banten, and Surabaya, East Java. The two companies import those deemed not to meet the standards, produce BjLS that do not comply with SNI and trade these products without having Product Certification for Using the Indonesian National Standard Mark (SPPT-SNI) and Goods Registration Number (NPB).

The Trade Minister emphasized that the actions of the perpetrators had the potential to violate Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, Law Number 7 of 2014 concerning Trade, and Minister of Trade Regulation Number 69 of 2018 concerning Supervision of Circulating Goods and/or Services.

“These business actors continue to trade at a lower selling price. This creates unfair competition because it can kill the domestic industry for similar products,” said the Minister of Trade.

The temporary security measures, continued by the Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan, were carried out to minimize consumer losses. Security is carried out based on Article 40 of the Regulation of the Minister of Trade Number 69 of 2018 concerning Supervision of Circulating Goods and/or Services.

"This temporary security is an initial prevention to minimize consumer losses in terms of safety, security, consumer health, and the environment (K3L)," explained Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan.
