JAKARTADAILY.ID – Peer-network company EGN, which entered Indonesia in 2021, is bullish on Indonesia's economy, and seeks to build a lasting and sustainable connection with member CEOs and executives in the archipelago nation.
Founded in 1992, EGN provides a venue for leaders to share their struggles, celebrate victories, gain fresh perspectives, and learn new skills as well as promote critical thinking and true collaboration.
Through its peer network of executives, EGN supports business leaders to be no longer on their own as they are now able to draw on the experience of others in their group and allow them to learn from peers of a similar level who work for similar-sized companies with a similar scale, challenges, and problems.
Representing more than 8,000 companies and 70 professions from 14 countries, EGN offers senior executives the opportunity to connect with other markets and industry leaders, learn outside their normal environment and strengthen their leadership system, while proving that there is a safe space for learning, collaboration, and accountability.
“We are hoping that for the first year to have about 100 members. It is not about the numbers, but we want members to have new experiences and really get feedback over the challenges,” co-founder and managing director, EGN Singapore, Nick Jonsson, remarked at an online interview here on Thursday.
He expressed his intention to build a lasting and sustainable connection with member CEOs and executives, whose number has currently reached nearly 15 thousand worldwide.

Jonsson said he is optimistic about Indonesia’s large potential since its economy is recovering and growing and it is experiencing less turmoil compared to other Southeast Asian countries.
“Indonesia seems to be such a big economy going forward, and also the learning mindset of executives is very attractive. Many would like to perhaps go study overseas. They like to be at the best universities. They like to attend the best courses,” he noted.
To this end, EGN has entered and established its presence in Indonesia for senior executives operating in the country, including locals and expatriates from diverse backgrounds and industries, he said.
“That is why we want to do this inside Jakarta to run the peer group there; more importantly, we have now many members in Singapore that have officers in Jakarta; they always said we wish our team in Jakarta joins a peer group like this,” he added.
However, Jonsson said that the biggest challenge for CEOs and executives in Indonesia is the time commitment.
“Everyone is so busy, let us say the executives. They mostly worry about the time, with six meetings in a year for four hours. That is definitely the number one challenge when you get people to invest their time into this,” he remarked.
Being the largest economy in Southeast Asia, Jonsson said it presents Indonesia with every reason for its leaders to benefit from a peer network, hence the establishment of EGN Indonesia for senior executives operating in the country – including locals and expatriates from various backgrounds and industries.
EGN Indonesia was established last year and will kick off its first peer group session for Senior Executives on May 24 at Fairmont Hotel, Senayan, Jakarta. This first session is by invitation only for the currently existing members. New members who want to join EGN Indonesia need to apply for their membership and receive approval from the existing EGN members and the EGN Indonesia management.
EGN’s presence in the market, Jonsson said may help reshape the mindset of Indonesian leaders from competing against each other to sharing amongst their peers and growing together instead.
"Peer networks help leaders to cultivate a growth mindset by opening up to learning new things and allowing them to bring this new perspective into their workplace to foster a better growth culture in the company," he said.
EGN members, Jonsson said, are able to experience an ever-growing community, which features six in-person peer group meetings per year, 12 in-person cross-functional events per year, 24 virtual cross-functional meetings per year, and four networking events per year.
