JAKARTADAILY.ID - The Workers Social Security Agency, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, or BP Jamsostek paid Rp 42.78 trillion in claims to three million participants in 2021.
The COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused many deaths as well as layoffs, was the reason behind the immense number of claims.
"The number of claims increased by 17.79 percent [compared to the previous] year due to the impact of the pandemic, which caused soaring death rates and layoffs," said President-Director of BP Jamsostek, Anggoro Eko Cahyo, during the 2022 Public Expose held virtually and on-site on Thursday (28/4/2022).
Anggoro said that per the issuance of the Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 5 of 2021, BP Jamsostek also began to pay educational scholarship benefits of a maximum of Rp 174 million for two children of the participants who died or suffered permanent total disability due to work accidents.
Meanwhile, from the scope of membership, until the end of 2021, there were 50.92 million registered workers. About 30.66 million were active contributing participants with a total contribution of Rp 80.15 trillion.
"It can be said that all claim payments throughout 2021 were able to be paid only with the contributions received," he said.
Anggoro believes that this achievement can be an important basis for achieving "universal coverage", especially with the direct support from the president through Presidential Instruction No. 2 of 2021.
"Although many challenges will be faced in 2021, we will continue to strive to provide the best performance so that the DJS Financial Soundness level is included in the very healthy and safe category," he said.
Meanwhile, BP Jamsostek noted that the investment value of the social security programs reached up to Rp 554 trillion as of the end of 2021. These funds came from five social security programs, namely Work Accident Insurance (JKK), Death Insurance (JKM), Old Age Security (JHT), Pension Guarantee (JP), and Job Loss Guarantee (JKP).
Anggoro said that the majority of the investment management funds came from the placement of the JHT program. The portion of JHT investment funds reached 67 percent or equivalent to Rp 572 trillion.
