JAKARTADAILY.ID - President Jokowi has banned the export of cooking oil raw materials since Thursday, April 28, 2022, until a date to be determined later.
The decision was taken by Jokowi in order to safeguard the supply of cooking oil in the country.
Jokowi will lift the ban on the export of cooking oil and its raw materials once the needs of the domestic market are fulfilled.
He emphasized that fulfilling the people's basic needs, including cooking oil, is the most important priority of government policy.
"Once the domestic needs have been fulfilled, I will definitely lift the export ban. I know the country needs taxes, the country needs foreign exchange, the country needs a trade balance surplus," said Jokowi, as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 27, 2022
Jokowi also asked for the awareness of palm oil industry producers. He appealed to the palm oil producers to meet domestic needs first and put the availability for domestic markets as a priority.
"Indeed, the domestic needs can be easily met if we pay attention to the priority of production capacity. The volume of cooking oil that we produce and export is much larger than the domestic demand. There is still a very large capacity remaining," he said
Jokowi is concerned about the scarcity of cooking oil in Indonesia. In fact, Indonesia is one of the largest palm oil-producing countries in the world, yet people find it hard to get cooking oil.
"It is ironic that, as the largest palm oil-producing country in the world, we instead have difficulties getting cooking oil," he said.
"I ask the palm oil business players to pay more attention to this problem and even more clearly. As president, I will not let this [problem continue]," he said.
