Minister of Industry: Energy Savings in the Industrial Sector Reach IDR 3.2 Trillion in 2021

JAKARTADAILY.ID - Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said data from 152 industrial companies participating in the Green Industry Award stated that there were significant savings in energy, water and carbon emission reductions.

"Based on data from 152 industrial companies participating in the 2021 Green Industry Awards, there were recorded energy savings of IDR 3.2 trillion and water savings of IDR 169 billion," said the Minister of Industry, in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 6, 2022.

The Minister of Industry said, from the GHG emission reduction program, based on verified results for the 2021 reporting year, until 2020, emissions reductions of up to 2,730,564.26 tons of CO2e or 99.3% of the NDC 2030 target for the industrial sector have been successfully carried out (2.75 million tons of CO2e).

"Through the Green Industry Award, the Ministry of Industry hopes to achieve the green industry development target goal in 2030 which in turn can increase industrial competitiveness, natural resource efficiency, reduce pollution levels, and fulfill national program targets," said Agus.

The conferment of the Green Industry Award which has been held since 2010 is a strategic effort in realizing a green economy and achieving low-carbon development targets.

"Until 2021, 44 manufacturing industries have been certified by the Green Industry Standard," he said.

The Green Industry Award is a program of awarding industrial companies that have implemented green industry principles in their production processes, with the aim of motivating industrial companies to apply green industry principles.

“The Green Industry Awards will be held for the 12th time in 2022. In 2021, there will be 152 participating companies. This number in my view is still relatively small. We hope that industry players will be immediately called upon to participate,” said Agus.

Agus hopes that the 152 companies that have participated are expected to improve their performance so that they can get a green industry award with a higher level.
