JAKARTADAILY.ID - The corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) responded to the criminal sentence of the corruption suspect, Edhy Prabowo, which has been reduced from nine years to only five years in prison.
Acting KPK Spokesperson Ali Fikri said his team respected the Supreme Court's cassation decision against the former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Edhy Prabowo. Ali Fikri explained that he had not received an official notification from the Supreme Court regarding Edhy Prabowo's sentence.
However, responding to this, Ali Fikri said, corruption requires a strong commitment from all elements of society, especially the commitment of law enforcement itself.

"The decision of the Panel of Judges should also take into account the nature of eradicating corruption as an extraordinary crime," he said in his statement on Thursday (March 10, 2022).
Ali Fikri stated that corruption is a common enemy and an extraordinary crime, so the means of eradicating must be carried out in an extraordinary way. It could be, for instance, with a decision that considers the sense of justice for the public.
"It is also to provide a deterrent effect to prevent similar acts from happening again," he said.

"Because giving a deterrent effect is one of the essences of law enforcement on corruption, which can be in the form of the amount of the primary criminal verdict or body, as well as additional penalties such as replacement money or revocation of political rights," he said.
The Supreme Court (MA) decided to reduce the prison sentence for former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Edhy Prabowo.
Edhy Prabowo's sentence, which at first was decided as 9 years in prison, has been reduced to 5 years. The decision was conveyed by the spokesman for the Supreme Court, Andi Samsan Nganro in Jakarta on Wednesday (March 9, 2022).
"The revised verdict of the corruption Court at the DKI Jakarta High Court, regarding the crime committed against the defendant and the length of additional punishment, sentenced the defendant Edhy Prabowo to 5 years in prison and an Rp400 million fine under the condition that if the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with 6 months of imprisonment," he said.
The decision was decided on March 7, 2022, by the cassation panel consisting of Sofyan Sitompul as chairman of the board, with member judges Gazalba Saleh and Sinintha Yuliansih Sibarani.
In addition, Edhy Prabowo's right to be elected for public office was also revoked for two years from the time the former Minister of the KKP finished serving his main sentence.
