JAKARTADAILY.ID - According to an article published on The People's Consultative Assembly website or MPR RI on Wednesday, Chairman Bambang Soesatyo asked the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati to respect the relationship between high state institutions.
The MPR Chairman noted that the finance minister had failed several times to attend meeting invitations from the MPR, and the MPR Budgeting Agency without any clear reason.
"As the Deputy Chairperson of the MPR RI who coordinates the Budgeting Agency, Mr. Fadel Muhammad really finds it difficult to coordinate with the Minister of Finance. She has been invited several times by the MPR leadership, (but) Sri Mulyani never comes. Two days before the meeting, she always cancels her attendance. This shows that Sri Mulyani does not respect the MPR as a high state institution," said Bambang Soesatyo in Jakarta, Tuesday.
The MPR RI assessed that the presence of the Minister of Finance was urgently needed to improve coordination with the MPR as the people's representative institution which is filled by 575 members of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and 136 members of the RI Regional Representatives Council (DPD).
Bambang Soesatyo explained that MPR Budget Agency also invited the Minister of Finance to discuss refocusing the Covid-19 response budget. However, each invitation went unheeded. In fact, the MPR RI has always supported the government's various performances in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the recovery of the national economy.
In the Indonesian constitution, the MPR RI consists of members of the People's Representative Council (DPR) and members of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) who are elected through general elections and further regulated by law.
In Indonesia, ministers serve as assistants to the President, and in deciding an important decision, the minister will coordinate with the DPR RI. This includes the Minister of Finance, who coordinates with the DPR RI's Budget Agency. (*)
