JAKARTADAILY.ID – ALBA Group Asia, through its subsidiary PT Alba Tridi Plastics Recycling Indonesia, has invested $60 million to construct a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling facility in Kendal, Central Java.
ALBA Group Asia, headquartered in Hong Kong with operations in China, Indonesia, and Singapore, celebrated the groundbreaking of the plastic waste processing facility in the Kendal Industrial Zone on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
The event was attended by important guests, including Regent of Kendal H. Dico Ganinduto, Director of Region III at the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Sri Moertiningroem, Assistant for Economic and Development of the Central Java Provincial Secretariat, Sujarwanto Dwiatmoko, and Director of PT Kendal Industrial Zone, Didik Purbadi.

Dr. Axel Schweitzer, Owner and Chairman of Alba Group Asia, graced the occasion, along with government officials from Central Java Province and Kendal Regency, as well as representatives from plastic waste processing companies in Singapore and Hong Kong.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Axel Schweitzer mentioned, "The positive social impact of this $60 million new plant investment will also create opportunities for approximately 150 new jobs."
Regent Dico highlighted that the groundbreaking ceremony was a significant step following the signing of a Joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Kendal Regency government and PT Alba Tridi Plastics Recycling Indonesia.
The MoU outlined plans for constructing a plastic waste management facility in Kendal, which is renowned as the "City of Santri."
Regent Dico revealed that the facility, spanning around 2.5 hectares of land, would become the largest plastic waste processing facility in Southeast Asia.
He emphasized, "This marks the beginning of the construction of the new plant, and the facility is expected to start operating in 2024, five times larger than the plant in Tangerang."
Regent Dico expressed his hope that the facility's construction would proceed smoothly, without any obstacles, and be completed promptly to benefit the people of Kendal, particularly in terms of job creation and waste management.
According to the official website of Kendal Regency, Dian Kurniawati, Director of PT Alba Tridi Recycling Indonesia, explained that the establishment of PT Alba Tridi Recycling Indonesia aimed to promote responsible plastic consumption and waste management.
The company envisions that plastic waste, which is considered a problem, can return to the environment as a raw material through recycling.
"This is the vision of PT Alba Tridi Recycling Indonesia, which is the realization of a waste-free world through the emergence of a global circular economy by utilizing waste as a sustainable resource through plastic recycling," said Dian.
