Digital Ecosystem Becomes the Indonesian MoT's Strategy to Increase the Turnover of Traditional Markets

JAKARTADAILY.ID - The digital era has changed consumer behavior in shopping. This is also what traders and people's market managers must face. Deputy Minister of Trade Jerry Sambuaga is optimistic that the entry of traders and people's market managers into the digital ecosystem can increase traders' turnover and income from people's market management.

In realizing digital transformation, the Ministry of Trade mapped out digitization criteria consisting of two aspects, namely the digitization of people's markets and the digitization of people's market traders.

The digitalization grouping is intended so that the government can map stakeholder synergies, steps, and strategic efforts taken for the success of the program.

"The entry of traders and people's market managers into the digital ecosystem can increase the turnover of traders and the income of people's market management. By the end of 2022, the Ministry of Trade has achieved the implementation of digitalization of 3,588 people's markets and digitization of 250,062 people's market traders," Jerry said at the opening of the State Savings Bank (BTN) Market Attack at the Tagog Padalarang Market, West Bandung Regency, West Java.

Specifically in West Java, continued the Vice Minister of Trade, the achievements of the digitization program have included 158 people's markets and 5,409 market traders. The digitalization category is in the form of utilizing a trade facility information system, the Trade Facility Information System (SISP) and the Basic Needs Market Monitoring System (SP2KP), market stalls, and non-cash payments.

"MSMEs are expected to be able to adapt to existing developments so that they can also develop their business. Especially in the midst of challenging economic conditions, shifts in trading behavior after the Covid-19 pandemic, and various crises," explained the Vice Minister of Trade, Thursday, March 9, 2023.

According to Jerry, the target of the Ministry of Trade can be achieved through several real collaborations and collaborations, such as Healthy, Innovative, Safe, Using QRIS (SIAP QRIS) non-cash payments with Bank Indonesia and Pos Indonesia; and utilization of marketplaces through Tokopedia and Tumbasin. Furthermore, utilizing on-demand delivery via GrabMart; application of market websites, price information, and recording of market turnover through SISP; as well as the implementation of payment of retribution electronically through regional and national banks.

The Deputy Minister of Trade added that the Ministry of Trade also continues to play an active role in facilitating business actors who pay attention to the development of digital ecosystems in people's markets through socialization and collaborative activities for the implementation of piloting digitalization in the field. In accordance with President Joko Widodo's directives, the government continues to strive to increase competitiveness and the existence of people's markets. One of the ways is through digitizing people's markets.

"The benefits of digitalization are not only facilitating transactions but are much broader and more substantive. Trade effectiveness, financial inclusion, and business opportunities in trade and supply chains will also be more effective and faster thanks to the digital transformation of the market ecosystem. Apart from that, the administration is safer and tidier," said Jerry.

The Deputy Minister of Trade said that all measuring instruments used in trade transactions at the Tagog Padalarang Market had been re-calibrated according to schedule. The agency in charge of trade also routinely supervises the use of measuring instruments in the market.
