BSI Soars to Become the 6th Largest Bank in Indonesia After Recording a Net Profit of Rp 4.26 Trillion

JAKARTADAILY.ID — State-owned bank PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) recorded significant growth performance in 2022.

The bank, which was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo at the State Palace, has succeeded in becoming the 6th largest bank in Indonesia, passing CIMB Niaga.

"Thank God, BSI's performance grew significantly last year. We can see from BSI's net profit which reached IDR 4.26 trillion or grew 40.68 percent year on year (yoy) at the end of 2022," said Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir in a written statement. in Jakarta, Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

According to him, BSI's growth is the result of hard work from the company's transformation which has a major impact on efficiency.

BSI's good performance, said Erick, shows that the bank that was merged two years ago is producing positive results. BSI is indeed a combination of BNI Syariah, Bank Syariah Mandiri, and BRI Syariah.

Erick said, as of the fourth quarter of 2022, BSI's total assets grew 15 percent to Rp 306 trillion. Even with third-party funds (DPK) which rose 12 percent (yoy) to IDR 261.49 trillion. Meanwhile, BSI financing grew 21 percent (yoy) to Rp 208 trillion.

In terms of asset quality, continued Erick, the gross non-performing financing (NPF) ratio has decreased from 2.93 percent to 2.42 percent as of December 2022.

Along with this decline, NPF Net also decreased by 0.87 percent to 0.57 percent. Meanwhile, the reserves described by the NPF Coverage rose from 148.87 percent to 183.12 percent.

"With this achievement, BSI has managed to move up one rank to become the number six largest bank in Indonesia," said Erick.

Matching BRI

The general chairman of the Islamic Economic Community (MES) said he was happy with the improved performance and growth of BSI's assets reaching hundreds of trillions.

Through strong banking access, BSI is expected to be able to be like BRI in accompanying and increasing the scale of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Erick has high hopes for BSI to become a forum and ecosystem for the national halal industry.
