JAKARTADAILY.ID - Anies Baswedan, Jakarta's Governor, conveyed his plan to pivot all government vehicles into electric vehicles.
"DKI Jakarta is currently in the process of converting government vehicles to electricity-based use, gradually," said Anies at the launch of the Transjakarta electric bus in Monas, Jakarta, Tuesday, March 8, 2022.
However, Anies said his team still focuses on prioritizing public transportation. His voice in encouraging the implementation of electric-based public transportation was said to reduce air pollution and private vehicles usage.
"We encourage the utilization of private electric cars. It'll [indeed] reduce the air pollution, but doesn't [decrease] the number of vehicles," said Anies.
"[Because] if the government vehicles are electric-based, the number of cars [on the road] remains the same. This [matter] is our primary focus," he added.
There will be 30 electric buses of Transjakarta operating on four different routes.
Anies further explained, per March 8, the buses will gradually operate in one Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route, which is 1P from Bundaran Senayan to Senen Station, and three non-BRT routes, which are 1R Tanah Abang-Senen Station, 1N Blok M-Tanah Abang, and 6N Ragunan-Blok M.
Two of the primary issues Jakarta currently faces are air pollution and traffic.
"Two of them are due to the high number of activities frequency of vehicles [on the road]," Anies concluded.
