JAKARTADAILY.ID – The Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto visited a company engaged in the shipping industry or shipbuilding in the Srengsem area, Bandar Lampung City, Lampung Province, Indonesia.
The official visit by Airlangga was to ensure that this company, crucial to the country's naval infrastructure, is in tip-top shape and able to produce the ships needed by the country, such as commercial and military vessels.
According to the press release published and quoted on Monday, the minister visited a national shipyard, PT Daya Radar Utama.

Airlangga directly inspected the production process of one of the Indonesian warships named KRI Teluk Palu. The government is indeed maximizing the national shipping industry to be able to support the strength of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Weapon System (Alutsista TNI), especially regarding the fulfillment of various needs for patrol boats and the like.
"We must continue to support this industry to strengthen the Indonesian economy through connectivity between regions by means of sea transportation," he said.
Airlangga emphasized that as an archipelago, Indonesia is very interested in the existence of the domestic shipping industry or shipbuilding. In addition to providing a multiplier effect to drive the economy, the role of the shipping industry is also very important in realizing inter-regional connectivity through strengthening sea transportation facilities.

The government has made various efforts to provide support, including by maintaining a conducive investment climate so that operational continuity and productivity of the shipping industry sector can be optimized. In addition, training is also provided for human resources engaged in the national shipping industry to further enhance competitiveness.
PT DRU Shipyard in the national shipping industry has been started since 1972 and has produced approximately 400 ships of various types and sizes. PT DRU Shipyard's business lines are new shipbuilding, ship maintenance, repair, and conversion projects. In 1993, the expansion of PT DRU Shipyard which at that time was still named PT Noahtu Shipyard was inaugurated by the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia Ir Hartarto.
By having international classifications from several other countries such as Japan, Italy, the United States, and France, PT DRU Shipyard is not only trusted to build ships for the TNI but also to build ships for Pertamina and several other institutions. In addition, PT DRU Shipyard has also collaborated with world-renowned defense equipment companies, namely Haveksan Turkey and Thales Netherlands. (*)
