Hyundai Chosen as the Official G20 Vehicle in Indonesia

JAKARTADAILY.ID - Korean automobile manufacturer Hyundai was chosen to be the official vehicle provider for the G20 Delegation. As many as 42 electric cars were prepared by Hyundai Motor Indonesia (HMID) as the representative of the Hyundai Motor Company in Indonesia to support the 1st Sherpa Meeting of the G20 Indonesia Presidency in 2022.

It is estimated that as many as 104 delegates will attend from 39 G20 Member States, invited countries, and international organizations at the event held in Jakarta. Indonesia's G20 presidency is also an opportunity to showcase the success of the Indonesian government in carrying out structural reforms that focus on trade, investment, and industry.

"As stated by the President, Indonesia puts forward concrete steps in dealing with environmental issues and climate change. One that reflects a leading by example is the use of Electric Vehicles in the G20 Presidency for officials," said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, who is also the Head of the Sherpa Track Division of the G20 Presidency in Indonesia during the handover ceremony for the use of electric cars from Hyundai in Jakarta, Wednesday.

The position of the G20 Presidency has officially shifted from Italy to Indonesia and will begin in December 2021. The first Sherpa Meeting is one of the opening series of the 2022 G20 Presidency of Indonesia which will be physically held in Jakarta on 6 – 8 December 2021 and will be a benchmark of holding the next meeting.

In relation to environmentally friendly issues, Indonesia is targeting a 29 percent reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions independently or 41 percent if it gets international encouragement. The government has also made various efforts to reduce GHG emissions, including through the mandatory biodiesel program, green economy cooperation, and regulations for accelerating the Battery-Based Electric Vehicle Program.

On the occasion, Coordinating Minister Airlangga also said that the Indonesian government would continue to encourage South Korean companies to develop businesses and invest in Indonesia.

"We appreciate Hyundai's USD 1.55 billion investment to develop its first manufacturing center in ASEAN, which is located in Kota Deltamas, Bekasi. With a maximum annual capacity of 250 thousand units, of course, this will provide thousands of jobs for the community," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga.

In addition to providing 42 electric cars for the transportation of the delegates, Hyundai also prepared special training for prospective drivers and installed two charging stations at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs as a complement to electric car operations.

"Indonesia encourages the production of electric vehicles, and of course, one of Indonesia's next targets according to the G20 theme is Recover Together, Recover Stronger, so we will jointly deal with all issues, be it the Covid-19 pandemic, economic recovery, digital transformation, and future environmental challenges," said Airlangga. (*)
