JAKARTADAILY.ID - The National Police has closed the case file pertaining to a student from Universitas Indonesia (UI) named Mohammad Hasya Athallah Saputra, who was allegedly run over by a car driven by a retired police officer.
The student, Hasya, died when he was run over by a Mitsubishi Pajero driven by retired Adjutant Senior Commissioner Eko Setia Budi Wahono in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on October 6, 2022.
Tempo summarized the facts surrounding the death of the UI student chronologically in a recent report.

The victim's family and the police provided two different accounts
According to a report compiled by Tempo, Adi Syahputra, Hasya's father, explained that based on witness testimony at the location, the accident occurred when the UI Political Science faculty student was about to return to the boarding house. Arriving at Jalan Srengseng Sawah, Hasya swayed on his motorcycle and fell to the right side of the road. At that time the Pajero car came from the opposite direction and hit and ran over Hasya.
"Yes, he was hit and then run over, according to the witness' statement. I was not at the location, but it was told like that," he said Friday, November 25, 2022.
Adi said that at that time the driver of the car refused to take responsibility. An ambulance brought Hasya to the hospital after the victim's friend sought help.
"So the information was that after arriving at the hospital he had died. We couldn't be sure whether he died in the ambulance or what, because he had been on the side of the road for quite a while," said Adi as quoted by Tempo.
The national police maintain that the retired police officer is innocent. According to the police, it was Hasya who was negligent driving so he swerved and fell and was hit and killed.
Head of the Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate of the Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya, Adjunct Senior Commissioner of Police Jhoni Eka Putra, added that there was no element of omission by Eko. According to him, Eko had stopped his car and tried to call an ambulance after the incident.
"He's tried to call all kinds of ambulances," said Jhoni when contacted on Friday, January 27, 2023.
Hasya instated as a suspect
Polda Metro Jaya named the accident victim, Mohammad Hasya Athallah Saputra, 18, as a suspect in this case. The Director of Traffic for the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Latif Usman, said that the victim's negligence was what got him killed when he was run over by a Mitsubishi Pajero driven by Eko, a retired police officer.
