Suspected Terrorist AW Arrested by Densus 88 in Yogyakarta for Spreading Extremist Content on Social Media

JAKARTADAILY.ID – One of the suspected terrorists with the initials AW (39) who was arrested by the Special Detachment 88 Anti-terror Team (Densus 88) in Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), was identified as using social media to spread provocative content.

This was disclosed by the Head of Operational Assistance (Banops) Densus 88 Anti-terror Police, Kombes Pol Aswin Siregar.

He said AW spread terror through provocative content through the social media platforms Facebook and Telegram.

"AW (spread provocative content) using FB (Facebook) and Telegram," said Aswin Siregar, Monday, January 23, 2023, as reported by PMJ News.
Previously, the National Police's Anti-terror Densus 88 arrested suspected terrorists in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).

Ahmad Ramadhan, Head of the Public Information Bureau of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, previously said that the arrest of one suspected terrorist was carried out on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at around 06.00 WIB in the morning.

"A target for a crime of terrorism with the initials AW (39) was arrested in the area around Jalan Pendowoharjo, Sleman, DIY," said Ahmad Ramadhan in his statement.

Ramadhan explained that the National Police suspected that AW was a sympathizer of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

The alleged perpetrator actively uploaded pictures and videos of the terrorist group's propaganda on social media.

"It is suspected that ISIS sympathizers are actively posting ISIS propaganda pictures and videos on social media and posting provocative calls to carry out acts of terror," said Ramadhan.
