JAKARTADAILY.ID – Bung Karno's eldest daughter and general chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Megawati Soekarnoputri met Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir in Sanur, Bali, on Monday, January 16, 2023.
Previously, these two national figures met at Sarinah, Jakarta recently. Now Erick Thohir and Megawati's meeting in Bali is related to efforts to preserve Bung Karno's legacy through a number of historical landmarks in the Sanur area, Bali.
Pangi Syarwhi Chaniagi, political observer and Executive Director of Voxpol Center Research said that this meeting further proved the strong chemistry between the two figures because they have similar ideologies and values.

"Regarding the meeting between Mrs. Mega and Mr. Erick, this is not the first meeting. There have been important moments such as the inauguration of Sarinah. There is nostalgia for Mrs. Megawati, there are past events that she cannot forget. The meeting between Mr. Erick and Mrs. Mega will certainly raise many meanings, especially regarding chemical equations," Pangi said when contacted by journalists on Monday.
From a political point of view, said Pangi, it was difficult not to read this meeting as a signal that Erick is getting closer to PDIP.
As the mainstay minister of the government led by PDI-P, Pangi saw this as something normal. Moreover, Erick's name is now starting to enter the political radar in 2024.
"With a meeting like this, I think it will be very good for Mr. Erick's steps forward," said Pangi.
He added that currently Erick is also widely associated with PDI-P's leading cadres in the 2024 Presidential Election. Erick's name has also begun to be associated with Puan Maharani and Ganjar.

Pangi sees Erick's meeting with Megawati this time as one of the steps to strengthen political chemistry.
"In the end, the presidential election matters are determined by political work. How Mr. Erick overcomes the complicated problems that exist in SOEs and the satisfaction of Mr. Jokowi, Megawati, and PDI-P is one important thing. In addition, political work will be decisive," he said.
Pangi believes that both Erick and Megawati will be important factors in 2024. "There are similarities between Ms. Mega and Erick for the initial steps towards the 2024 Presidential Election. I think Ms. Mega is a veto player. The Queen maker will determine the 2024 Presidential Election," he said.
