JAKARTADAILY.ID – The Indonesian government inaugurated the Southwest Papua Province. Thus, the number of provinces in Indonesia is now officially 38 provinces.
"By the grace of God Almighty, I, Minister of Home Affairs, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Indonesia hereby inaugurate Southwest Papua Province. Based on Law No. 29/2022. May God Almighty bless us all," said Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian on Friday, December 9, 2022.
Tito said the inauguration of the new autonomous region (DOB) in Papua along with three other new autonomous regions was the government's effort to accelerate the distribution of development and welfare of the people of Papua.

"Our hope will also shorten the bureaucracy. There is no need for coordination later, communication must go to Manokwari, from Sorong Raya it is enough to go to the city of Sorong as the capital city," Tito.
The inauguration of the province of Southwest Papua was also marked by the inauguration of Muhammad Masa'ad as Acting (Pj) Governor of Southwest Papua by Minister of Home Affairs Tito.
Previously, the government had inaugurated three new autonomous regions (DOBs) in Papua, namely the Provinces of South Papua, Central Papua, and Highlands Papua.

The inauguration of the three new autonomous regions was symbolically carried out by the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian on behalf of President Joko Widodo at the Ministry of Home Affairs Office, Jakarta, Friday, 11 November 2022.
