A Miracle Among the Rubble: 5 Year Old Found Alive After Buried in Ruins for Two Days

JAKARTADAILY.ID – Joint rescue teams for the Cianjur earthquake save a child who had been trapped for 48 hours in the ruins of a building in Rawa Cina Village, Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency.

Head of Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto said that a child named Azka Maulana Malik, age 5, was found by a rescue team under the rubble of his house.

Azka was found under a cupboard that protected him from the rubble around him. 

"Azka has been trapped under the rubble for two days," said Suharyanto at a press conference, Wednesday, November 23, 2022.

Apart from finding Azka, rescue workers also succeeded in rescuing Azka's grandmother who was also buried under the rubble, however, Azka's grandmother did not make it.

Suharyanto explained that BNPB had also succeeded in removing three other people from the rubble caused by the earthquake. However, the three people were already dead when officers found them.

"Azka is the only survivor found today," he said.
