Ministry of Public Works on Landslide Watch Along the Cianjur-Puncak National Road After Earthquake

JAKARTADAILY.ID – The Indonesian Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono lead parties to inspect a landslide caused by the earthquake in Cugenang District, Cianjur, West Java.

Minister Basuki and his entourage arrived at the location on Monday evening, November 21, 2022, at 21.45 Western Indonesia Time (WIB). Aftershocks were still occurring at 21.30 WIB.

Minister Basuki said that his party deployed excavators and dump trucks to clean up trees and landslides that closed off the road on the Cipanas - Cianjur road.

"Until 01.45 WIB, Tuesday morning, the total heavy equipment working from 2 different sides (the Cianjur side in the south and the Cipanas side in the north) was 6 units of excavators and 6 units of dump trucks," said Minister Basuki in a press release on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.

Minister Basuki said that at noon today, Tuesday, November 22, 2022, the landslide had been cleared so that the Cianjur - Cipanas road section can be reopened.

"We were able to penetrate the sections covered by landslides from the 140-meter long cliff at 2 points this morning at 08.00 WIB. Now our focus is on clearing the road sections so that they can be passed from 2 directions, as well as evacuating bodies found buried in landslides," said PUPR spokesperson Endra S. Atmawidjaja.

"We hope that the delivery of medical aid, medical personnel, food, and clothing can run more smoothly," said Endra.

The PUPR Ministry also deployed 6 Public Hydrants, 4 Water Tank Cars, and 6 Portable Toilets which have also been used in emergency evacuation sites, especially around the Regent's Hall and Cianjur Hospital.

Endra, representing the whole extended family of the Ministry of PUPR expressed his deepest condolences to all the victims and families left behind by the Cianjur earthquake.

"To all the people of Cianjur and its surroundings, please remain vigilant with the risk of subsequent earthquakes or landslides. For this reason, we must always update credible official information from BNPB and BMKG," said Endra.
