At Least 20 Lives Lost in 5.6 Magnitude Earthquake Centered in Cianjur, West Java

JAKARTADAILY.ID – An earthquake centered in the Cianjur-Sukabumi area in West Java on Monday, November 21, 2022, reportedly claimed at least 20 lives and injured hundreds.

The Cianjur Police Chief, Police Grand Commissioner Adjutant Doni Hermawan said the number of casualties referred to data collected from the Cianjur District Hospital.

Around 100 people were reportedly injured and are being treated at the hospitals in Cianjur.

"We are still gathering information, we can see directly that 100 people are being treated for injuries, and 20 people died, according to the data at the Cianjur District Hospital," Doni said as reported by CNN Indonesia on Monday.

The number of casualties and injured may still increase. So far, ambulances are still going back and forth to pick up patients that were affected by the earthquake.

"We are still gathering data (from other hospitals). The others are still processing because the ambulances are still arriving," he said.

The earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 occurred on Monday afternoon, around 13.21 WIB.
