JAKARTADAILY.ID – The National Democratic (NasDem) Party officially declared anies baswedan as a presidential candidate for the 2024 General Election.

The declaration was announced directly by nasdem General Chair Surya Paloh at the nasdem Party DPP Office in Central Jakarta, Monday, October 3, 2022.

"This is why nasdem finally chose Anies Rasyid Baswedan. We believe the thoughts from a macro-micro perspective are in line with what we believe. We entrust the nation's journey forward, God willing, if Anies is elected, he will lead the nation to become a more dignified nation," said Paloh, as reported by CNN Indonesia.

This declaration was attended directly by Anies. The governor of DKI Jakarta arrived at the nasdem Tower at around 09.00 in a black suit, white shirt, and a black tie.

Anies did not give a statement to the press and only gave a thumbs up when asked about his views regarding Surya's plan to declare the name of the presidential candidate that will be carried by nasdem in the 2024 presidential election today.

The nasdem declaration carrying Anies as a presidential candidate automatically thwarted the candidacy of Central Java Governor ganjar pranowo and TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa.

nasdem cannot alone carry Anies as a presidential candidate in the 2024 election because of the presidential threshold requirement.

nasdem in the 2019 General Election only got 59 seats or about 9.05 percent of the total seats in the DPR RI. Meanwhile, election rules require parties that carry presidential and vice-presidential candidates to have at least 20 percent of the seats in the DPR or 25 percent of the nationally valid votes in the previous election.

To get around the presidential threshold, nasdem plans to build a coalition with PKS and the Democratic Party.
