Police Question 18 Witnesses Including Two Alleged Suspect on the Death of Gontor Boarding School Student

JAKARTADAILY.ID – Investigations are ongoing into the death of 17-year-old Albar Mahdi, a student at the Pondok Modern Gontor Islamic boarding school. 

Police forces from the Ponorogo Regency, East Java, have completed examinations of 18 witnesses, including two students who are the prime suspects who committed violence against Albar. 

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Ponorogo Police Station, Police Adjunct Commissioner (AKP) Nikolas Bagas Yudhi Kurnia, explained that the witnesses being examined included boarding staff, doctors, and several emergency room staff at Gontor Modern Islamic boarding schools.

According to police reports, Nikolas said the number of witnesses would continue to increase as investigators obtained more information regarding the case. 

"There are 18 witnesses who have been examined to date. We will update the other witnesses again," explained Nikolas, during the autopsy of AM's body at the Sungai Selayur TPU, Palembang, Thursday, September 7, 2022.

Nikolas said the alleged perpetrators amounted to two people who were victim's senior at the Gontor Modern Islamic Boarding School.

Meanwhile, the other two victims who also suffered injuries due to the persecution are healthy and are returning to their usual activities at the pesantren.
