Indonesian Metro Jaya Police Makes 78 Arrests in Online Gambling Crackdown

JAKARTADAILY.ID – The Metro Jaya Regional Police confirmed their commitment to eradicating online gambling according to the direction of the Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit.

According to a report published on Polda Metro Jaya's official news portal, on Friday, August 12, 2022, the Special Criminal Directorate of the Polda Metro Jaya revealed cases of online gambling that were increasingly prevalent in the community.

In these raids, at least 78 people were arrested from a shophouse that was used as an online gambling headquarters in the North Jakarta area.

Director of Special Criminal Investigation at the Metro Jaya Police, Chief Commissioner Auliansyah Lubis confirmed the arrests of dozens of gamblers in the raids on Friday, early morning, August 12, 2022.

"Disclosure of online gambling cases at Rukan Exclusive Blok E number 39A Bukit Golf Mediterania Jalan Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta. 78 people have been arrested," said Chief Commissioner Auliansyah when confirmed, Friday, August 12, 2022.

According to Auliansyah, currently, 78 people are still under investigation. They are suspected of having committed criminal acts of gambling through electronic media and money laundering (TPPU).

"As referred to in Article 27 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 45 paragraph 2 of Law No. 19 of 2016 concerning ITE and Articles 3, 4, 5 of Law No. 8 of 2010 concerning ML," he said.

Auliansyah also urges the public in the jurisdiction of the Polda Metro Jaya to report if they find sites that invite or offer online gambling games.

"So please report to us if the public knows that certain sites offer online gambling games," explained the Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya, Chief Commissioner Endra Zulpan.

In addition, his party, in this case, the Cyber ​​Sub-Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police Special Criminal Investigation, continues to work to monitor online gambling in cyberspace. The police will act if they find a criminal act of online gambling crime.

"Every day we carry out cyber patrols in order to monitor whether there is such a crime. Until now, we have seen the situation that there are no people who complain about the online gambling that is rampant in us. But if there is, we open the door to report," he said.
