JAKARTADAILY.ID – The scientific crime investigation (SCI) approach is believed to be able to uncover the alleged shooting case of Brigadier Nopryansah Yosua Hutabarat alias Brigadier J by Bharada E.

Communication expert from Pelita Harapan University (UPH) Emrus Sihombing assessed that the presence of a special investigation using SCI would reduce wild assumptions about the bloody events that occurred at the official residence of the now suspended Inspector General Ferdy Sambo.

"The only way to solve this case is with a scientific crime investigation approach that is free from the influence of positions and other interests," said Emrus Sihombing in Jakarta, Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

According to Emrus Sihombing, through the use of the SCI approach, the data itself will speak. The data includes who is involved, who is the main actor, who is the supporting role, and what is the process.

According to Emrus, only an approach using the SCI instrument was able to uncover the alleged shooting case of Brigadier J at the official residence of Inspector General Ferdy Sambo.

"This SCI approach at the same time answers and stops various subjective assumptions that may get wilder in the future," said Emrus.

The professor of communication science suggested that the SCI team consisting of doctors of criminology, police science, communicators, sociologists, anthropologists, legal scientists, and psychology from outside the police structure should be independent.

Emrus appreciated the steps taken by the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who had temporarily disabled Ferdy Sambo from his position as the Head of the Propam Police Division.

The deactivation of Sambo, according to Emrus, will have a good impact for the sake of transparency, accountability, and objectivity in handling cases. This shows that the Police continue to prioritize precision action.

Questioning the wild assumptions that appeared in the public regarding the deactivation of Ferdy Sambo and not related to the locus of the incident, Emrus was of the view that it depended on the approach used.

“If we use a quantitative approach, then indeed, one phenomenon with another seems to be independent or partial. However, if you use a qualitative approach, then every phenomenon cannot be separated from other phenomena or are interrelated with one another,” said Emrus.
