JAKARTADAILY.ID – Following the controversy over the Holywings cafe promoting free alcohol drinks for person named Muhammad and Maria via social media, Indonesian Ministry of Religion invites the public to avoid promoting their products using SARA (Ethnic, Race, Religion, and Intergroup) issues.
“It is important to understand the ethical boundaries in marketing communication in the business world. Anyone, in any case, should avoid playing with racial issues because the public reaction that was caused was predictable," said Secretary of the Directorate General of Islamic Guidance, M. Fuad Nasar, publish on Ministry of Religion official website, Friday, June 24, 2022.
Fuad said, from the point of view of business communication, it is not certain that when the promotion of a product becomes a controversial issue, it will have a positive impact. Instead, he said, it was counterproductive and detrimental to a company's reputation.
"Put something in its place," he insisted.
According to Fuad, a non-halal food and beverage product has been understood by the public in accordance with the religious beliefs held, especially Muslims.
"So it's not good if it is mixed up, for example, associated with the name or identity of a religion and ethnicity which will never make it lawful. Then why endorse something like that?” he said.
Previously, the homeland virtual world had been enlivened by Holywings' uploads promoting free alcohol drinks for people named Muhammad and Maria.
The upload was immediately crowded because it was considered to be insulting the names of two holy people in two religions, namely Islam and Christianity.
