JAKARTADAILY.ID – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) will blacklist passengers who commit Sexual Harassment while on a train journey. This is done to prevent the occurrence of sexual violence in KAI services.

KAI's EVP Corporate Secretary Asdo Artriviyanto said on Tuesday that this policy was implemented by KAI to provide a deterrent effect and prevent perpetrators from doing the same thing in the future.

"KAI does not tolerate this incident at all and hopes that such incidents will not happen again in various other KAI services," Asdo said in a press release, Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

This policy also applies to perpetrators of Sexual Harassment whose cases went viral some time ago. Asdo explained that KAI had contacted the victim to apologize for the inconvenience experienced and was ready to provide support in the legal steps that would be taken.

The victim, said Asdo, did not intend to take this matter to court and only asked the alleged perpetrator to apologize and would not repeat his actions again.

“Based on video evidence and available reports, KAI will blacklist the relevant Population Identification Number (NIK) so that it cannot use KAI's services in the future,” said Asdo.

Asdo added that KAI refuses to provide services to perpetrators who have violated ethics and committed immorality while at the same time degrading the dignity of other customers, especially women.

In order to prevent similar incidents from happening, KAI will continue to carry out socialization through various media and announcements at stations and during the trip.

“Officers will remind regarding the importance of maintaining politeness towards fellow passengers, the consequences of acts of sexual harassment, and remind them to immediately report behavior that makes passengers uncomfortable,” he said.

KAI will also increase supervision and security so as not to provide opportunities for perpetrators to carry out their intentions.

"Hopefully the various steps that KAI has taken can continue to provide a sense of security and comfort for customers while using KAI's services," concluded Asdo.
