JAKARTADAILY.ID – Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo confirmed that Foot and Mouth Disease or FMD is not transmitted to humans.
For this reason, in addition to carrying out a number of strategies to suppress its spread to livestock, Minister Syahrul asked that there be no excessive worry and panic in the community.
"We must maximize socialization to the community, that this disease is not contagious to humans, and this statement was strengthened by the Minister of Health during the meeting with the President and this is very important," said the Minister Syahrul after the related coordination meeting Animal FMD with East Java Governor at Surabaya, Monday Mei 9, 2022.
In addition to fully supporting the eradication effort by assigning a team to check field conditions, Minister Syahrul also said that his party through the Veterinary Farma Center or Pusvetma in Surabaya was conducting further research to ascertain the level and type of FMD serotype identified in a number of areas in East Java.
"This FMD is still under research in our veterinary lab in Surabaya to the fullest, so we can identify what level it is, what type it is, we hope today or tomorrow the results will come out," he explained.
Minister Syahrul detailed that with the laboratory results, the government will find it easier to determine the right vaccine.
He hopes that the determination of the vaccine can take advantage of existing resources in the country. in this way, he ensures that the management of FMD can run more effectively and efficiently.
In line with Minister Syahrul, the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, asked the media to help the government's efforts to educate the public regarding FMD. This is so that there is no excessive worry that will cause panic in the community regarding this disease.
"The Minister of Agriculture and the Minister of Health says it is not contagious to humans, I often say, the Penta helix approach means that the media and government, society, universities, and the private sector please help convey that FMD is not contagious to humans," she said.
In addition, Khofifah said that her party together with the Ministry of Agriculture would take a number of comprehensive steps to ensure that the spread of FMD does not spread in East Java.
The government implements cage-based isolation and cooperates with many other parties so that the drug assistance provided by the Ministry of Agriculture can be distributed optimally.
