Accident Rate During the Ketupat Operation 2022 for Eid Homecoming Dropped by 31 Percent This Year

JAKARTADAILY.ID -  The rate of accidents in Operation Ketupat 2022 showed a decline of 31 percent compared to 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic. However, data is still being collected in order to improve work that can be done by traffic police.

"The number of accidents in Operation Ketupat 2022 has decreased by 31 percent. This is compared to the 2019 homecoming and return season, the period before the Covid-19 pandemic," said Head of the Traffic Corps of the National Police, Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi, Monday, Mei 9, 2022.

Firman revealed that his party had made maximum efforts to secure the flow of going back and forth for Homecoming Eid Al Fitr 2022.

"Evaluation process would still be carried out to improve the work of the police," he said.

Meanwhile,  West Java Regional Police stated that 103 accidents occurred during the homecoming holiday 2022. 29 people suffered serious injuries, 137 minor injuries, and 37 people died.

"There were 37 people who died in an accident during the homecoming holiday season this year. Meanwhile, in 2021, as many as 78 victims died," said Head of Public Relations of the West Java Police, Chief Commissioner Ibrahim Tompo in his statement in a press release published on the National Police Traffic Corps website at korlantas.polri.go.id on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.

According to Ibrahim, the number of traffic accidents this year's homecoming season was dominated by arterial roads with a total of 97 cases. Meanwhile, there were six cases of accidents on toll roads.

"The victim died in an accident on the arterial route as many as 36 people and one person on the toll road," he explained.

Ibrahim said the number of victims of serious and minor injuries during this year's Lebaran homecoming season has also decreased.

"This year's Eid homecoming season, the number of cases of traffic accidents and the number of deaths and serious and minor injuries have decreased compared to the previous year," he said.
