A tectonic earthquake was reported to have rocked the northeast of Labuha City, South Halmahera, North Maluku at 10:41 a.m. Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT).
Based on the results of the analysis, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the earthquake that rocked the area had a magnitude of 3.3.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located at coordinates 0.57 South Latitude and 127.60 East Longitude, precisely 15 km northeast of Labuha at a depth of 10 km.
This earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3 was reported to have occurred due to active fault activity.
"Regarding the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a shallow type of earthquake triggered by active fault activity," said the Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Mitigation Division, Daryono.
Earthquake shocks were felt on the MMI scale III in Labuha, that is, real vibrations were felt in the house. There was a vibration as if a truck was passing by.
As a result of being shaken by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3, several residents were reported to have run out of their homes.
"The shock of this earthquake was felt by MMI III in Labuha. Some residents ran out of their houses," said Daryono.
Meanwhile, until now, there has been no report of the impact of damage caused by the earthquake.
"The modeling results show that the earthquake that occurred did not have the potential for a tsunami," said Daryono, quoted by Pikiran-Rakyat.com from the Instagram account @daryonobmkg.
He added that as of 11:07 a.m. WIT, the results of BMKG monitoring showed that there had been no aftershock activity.
