JAKARTADAILY.ID - Around 100,000 workers will continue their demonstration to mark International Workers' Day (May Day) on May 14, 2022.

President of the Labor Party, Said Iqbal, explained at the Istora Senayan, Jakarta, that the action was still part of the May Day which falls on May 1 every year.

"On May 14, 2022, it was confirmed that 100,000 workers will do a rally at the Indonesian House of Representative or DPR. We will submit 15 demands that have been given, after that we will march to Istora," said Said Iqbal, as quoted by Antara.

On Sunday, May 1, 2022, the Labor Party and several worker unions started the commemoration of the International Labor Day by holding a rally in front of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) building.

During the action in front of the KPU office, dozens of workers joined the demonstrators and conveyed three demands.

The demands include an honest and fair general election, rejecting the practice of money politics, and urging the KPU to continue holding the general election on February 14, 2024," said Said Iqbal.

Apart from political demands, the workers also demanded the government lower the prices of basic commodities and cooking oil. They also rejected the government's plans to increase the price of fuel oil and gas.

Previously, Said Iqbal said that during the May 14 action, the Labor Party and the Indonesian Labor Movement would voice 11 demands.

However in their latest statement, the workers, as of May 14, would increase their demands to 15 points. The action will be held in front of the MPR/DPR RI Building and Istora Senayan.
