JAKARTADAILY.ID - A total of 139,232 inmates throughout Indonesia are set to receive special remission on Eid al-Fitr 2022. All 675 of them can immediately be released and celebrate Eid with their families.
The Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocol of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas), Rika Aprianti, said that the remission received by inmates was a form of appreciation for the changes in behavior they showed when serving a sentence at the Correctional Institution (Lembaga Pemasyarakatan), State Detention Center (Rumah Tahanan Negara), or Special Child Development Institution (Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak).

Remissions are also intended to accelerate the process of social reintegration so that they can immediately return to the community.
"It is hoped that the Eid al-Fitr remission can be used as reflection and motivation to always introspect and continue striving to become a better human being. Today's achievement proves that they are capable of transforming themselves into better human beings. Be a person who obeys the law, has a noble character and is virtuous, and is useful for nation-building," said Rika.
The extension of the Home Assimilation program for Prisoners and children through the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number 43 of 2021 is also the response of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia to the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic which is still designated as a national non-natural disaster.
"With the issuance of this policy, it is expected to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the Correctional Institution/State Detention Center/Special Child Development Institution and as a means to reduce the overcrowded state which has reached 106 percent. The overcrowded state has an impact on the lack of optimal service and guidance to the Correctional Inmates," he said.

"The rights of the Correctional Inmates will certainly be fulfilled as long as they meet the predetermined conditions," he said.
