JAKARTADAILY.ID - Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi has banned the export of Crude Palm Oil or CPO.
The ban also applies to raw materials for cooking oil (RBD Palm Olein), RBD Palm Oil, and used cooking oil (UCO).
Muhammad Lutfi said the ban on cooking oil export is written in the Minister of Trade Regulation No. 22 of 2022 regarding the temporary ban on exports of CPO, RBD Palm Olein, RBD Palm Oil and UCO.
The temporary export ban will take effect from April 28, 2022, until bulk cooking oil prices reach an affordable price level.
He said the temporary export ban on CPO, RBD Palm Olein, RBD Palm Oil and UCO is already in effect in a number of Indonesian customs areas.
This includes free trade areas and free ports, namely in Batam, Bintan, Karimun, and Sabang.
"Exporters who violate [the ban] will be subject to sanctions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," he said in a virtual official statement on Thursday, April 28, 2022.
Lutfi said his staff would cooperate with the National Police and other law enforcement officers to monitor the implementation of these policies.
Meanwhile, exporters who had received an export customs notification registration number no later than April 27, 2022, can still carry out exports.
This temporary export ban aims to encourage the availability of raw materials and domestic supply of cooking oil.
This policy is also expected to be able to reduce cooking oil prices to an affordable price point.
"The policy will be evaluated periodically at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs level every month or at any time if needed," he said.
