JAKARTADAILY.ID - The reasons for relocating the capital city of Indonesia from Jakarta to Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan, are still a topic of conversation among the public.

Until now, the back-and-forth concerning the development of the state capital city or IKN to East Kalimantan has not ended.

Furthermore, several observers disapproved of the transfer of IKN, who stated that Indonesia's economic and political conditions are not yet stable.

Nonetheless, the general chairman of the All-Indonesian National Consultant Association (Inkindo), Perter Frans, said the transfer of IKN was mainly due to the heavy burden borne by Jakarta.

"The subsidence of the land, flooding, and traffic congestion show the heavy burden of the city of Jakarta, which could be the reason for moving the IKN," said Peter, as quoted by Antara.

Peter Frans further said that the relocation of the capital city had been planned by the former presidents, not only the current president.

There was even a notion of moving the IKN to Jonggol, West Java. "We, consultants from Inkindo, would like to hear some expert opinions from different perspectives regarding the transfer of IKN. Later on, those opinions will be delivered as an input to the government," said Peter.

Frans also mentioned the difference of opinion related to the current choice of IKN location, which is considered prone to flooding. The assessment is based on the consideration that the Penajam Paser Utara area was flooded for quite a long time some time ago.

"In fact, the Inkindo leadership in Samarinda said that the drainage basin in the IKN location is different from that in Samarinda, which is often flooded," said Peter.

The opinion that Jakarta's regional revenue (PAD) is higher than other regions was also denied by Inkindo's leadership. It argues that East Kalimantan's PAD is not inferior to Jakarta's, especially considering the mining sector.
