JAKARTADAILY.ID - The head of the State Intelligence Agency or BIN, (Ret.) Police General Pol Budi Gunawan has reiterated President Joko Widodo's remarks regarding the construction of the new National Capital City in Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan.
The construction of the new National Capital City (IKN) is projected to run until 2045, and the State Palace in the new capital is targeted to be completed in 2024.
However, the development of IKN is still drawing for and against responses from several observers, political figures, and the public. One of these is related to Indonesia's economic conditions and customary lands in East Kalimantan.
Nevertheless, Budi Gunawan said that the local community around the location of the IKN candidate had welcomed the development.
"As the president has repeatedly emphasized, the IKN transfer is not just [about] moving state civil apparatus and building government buildings," said Budi Gunawan, as quoted by Antara.
Budi Gunawan further said that the construction of the IKN would also transfer the center of growth.
"The transfer of IKN will also shift the center of growth and [serve as] a leap for the national transformation toward an advanced, just and prosperous Indonesia," said Budi Gunawan.
Budi Gunawan also claimed that the traditional stakeholders around the construction site could see Jokowi's good intentions in constructing the IKN to advance Indonesia's territory apart from Java.
"IKN Nusantara is designed as an inclusive and humanist city built for all elements [of society] by involving the potential of human resources both from outside and in Kalimantan, which reflects diversity as a characteristic of Indonesia. The existing villages and hamlets will become supporters of the core city, and [they] will be organized into smart villages," he said.
