Workers to Hold Rallies in Jakarta to Mark May Day

JAKARTADAILY.ID - Workers are planning to hold rallies to commemorate May Day. The commemoration will be held twice this year, on May 1 and 14.

Labor Party Chairman Said Iqbal said a rally would be held in front of the KPU office to demand honest, fair elections and reject money politics. Elections will be held on February 14, 2024.

Furthermore, rallies to reject the Omnibus Law will also be held at the Bundaran HI. Also on the agenda, workers will urge the government to lower food prices and demand the dismissal of the Minister of Trade.

Said informed that all labor parties will rally simultaneously at the provincial KPUD office on May 1.

After May 1, workers will celebrate the May Day Commemoration on May 14, 2022. The rally in front of the Indonesian House of Representatives building will be attended by 100,000 workers from throughout Greater Jakarta.

Later, a declaration of the labor struggle will be carried out by the Labor Party and the Indonesian labor movement at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) or Istora Senayan.

For the May Day celebration on May 14, 2022, the labor parties will be present with four confederations of trade unions, 60 federations of trade unions at the national level, the Indonesian Farmers Union (SPI), the National Network for Advocacy of Domestic Workers (JALA PRT), Urban Poor Consortium, Honorary Teachers Forum, Indonesian Women's Movement, migrant workers, ride-hailing services driver, as well as youth and student organizations.

Besides Jakarta, the May 14 rally will be also held by tens of thousands of workers in Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Makassar, Banjarmasin, Medan, Batam, Ternate, Gorontalo, Manokwari, and other big cities.

Said Iqbal said that during the May 14 action, the Labor Party and the Indonesian labor movement would voice 11 demands.
