The inauguration was held amidst the presidential term extension causing students to conduct a simultaneous mass protest in many cities across Indonesia on Monday, April 11, 2022.
One of the students’ demands presented by the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) urged the people's representatives to reject the postponement of the election or the extension of the term of office.
"We will inaugurate the KPU and Bawaslu for the 2022-2024 period and immediately prepare for the Simultaneous General Election and Regional Head Election in 2024," President Jokowi said on Sunday, April 10, 2022, quoted from PMJ News.
President Jokowi asked the new members of the KPU and Bawaslu to carefully prepare for the simultaneous General Elections and Regional Elections in 2024.
He also instructed that the legal protection and regulations needed for its implementation could be completed immediately.
Including emphasizing the need for more detailed planning regarding the budgeting which is predicted to reach Rp 110.4 trillion.
Prior to being inaugurated by President Jokowi, the members of the KPU and Bawaslu had already been approved by the DPR.
The inauguration was carried out during the 16th Plenary Meeting of the DPR in the third trial year 2021-2022 on Friday, February 18, 2022.
The KPU members elected were Betty Epsilon Idroos, Hasyim Asy'ari, Mochammad Afifuddin, Parsadaan Harahap, Yulianto Sudrajat, Idham Holik and August Mellaz.
While the elected Bawaslu members include Lolly Suhenty, Puadi, Rahmad Bagja, Totok Haryono, and Herwyn Jefler H Malonda.
