West Nusa Tenggara Apologizes After Abandoning MotoGP Audiences

JAKARTADAILY.ID - Governor Of West Nusa Tenggara H Zulkieflimansyar expressed his sincerest apologies to the audience who attended the Indonesia MotoGP event at the Mandalika Circuit from March 18-20, 2022.

Thousands of viewers were left abandoned by the end of the event and were forced to walk until midnight on Sunday, March 20, 2022. The predicament evoked protest posts shared by attendees, expressing their dissatisfaction towards the world-acclaimed racing event.

“We apologize for not giving a fully perfect service as was previously planned,” said Zulkieflimansyar as quoted by Pikiran-Rakyat.com from Antaranews, Sunday, March 21, 2022, in Mataram.

The problem was due to traffic jams caused by attendees who brought their own vehicles. The buses used to carry the attendees are also old which contributes to the problem.

“We didn't expect so many private vehicles, our buses are also old and we will check them," said Zulkifliemansyah.

Zulkieflimansyah truly understands the audience's complaints, but he wants to underline that the committee has worked as well as possible on this event.

“Such is how every first event is, even though we have worked as best as possible there will always be imperfections," he continued.

Admitting the lack of performance at the Mandalika Circuit at the last MotoGP event, the Government hopes the community to empathize with the situation. Especially when the recent one runs far better than MotoGP 1996 and 1997 in Sentul.

“We did not seek excuses, but the one in Sentul was far worse than yesterday’s [event],” the Governor said. “We just did not expect so many arriving private vehicles, causing traffic jams and the busses to arrive late,” he explained.

Due to this problem, many in the audience claim to feel uncared for. They have to walk on foot to exit the Circuit and at quite a long distance. Even so, the Governor, nicknamed Zul, promised to see this problem as an opportunity to evaluate for future projects.

“We will look-onto this problem in the future,” Zul said. “We also can not complain to the officers who have put maximum [effort into their] work, but hopefully it will be a good feedback of the previous event,” Zul concluded.
