JAKARTADAILY.ID - Head and Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno have addressed the asphalt problem on the Mandalika Circuit or Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit.
The circuit scheduled for the 1,000 CC motorcycle race on March 18-20, 2022, will be partially resurfaced and repaved by the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC).
The asphalt refinement process has received support from the FIM (Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme) and Dorna Sports.
After evaluating the circuit, Uno revealed the news as quoted on Tuesday from the ministry's press conference.
"We have reviewed [the matter] which has become the concern of the entire community regarding the condition of the track at Mandalika International, and now [work is] already in progress. And we are actually ahead of schedule, two days ahead of the original schedule. There is nothing to worry about," said Sandiaga on the asphalt refinement progress.
"I saw the commitment from our colleague in ITDC, which is extraordinary and needs to be appreciated, and we can say it here that we are ready for MotoGP Mandalika," he added.
The minister said Mandalika is one of the most beautiful circuits because it is directly adjacent to the sea. Therefore, he said the circuit trajectory must also be of quality.
He also invited the community to make the Mandalika MotoGP race a success. It could be an opportunity to revive the Indonesian economy, especially the people in West Nusa Tenggara, who should feel its benefits firsthand.
"We hope this [event] will be a memorable experience for all tourists who attend. So we hope it will be a successful opening and will continue, so that people will have additional income, and the economy will rise and recover," said Sandiaga.
